Artist Biography

Emre Aksu was born in Istanbul in 1987. Growing up in the vibrant, culturally rich city, he was exposed early on to the contrasting layers of history and modernity that shaped his artistic sensibilities. His interest in art began at a young age while assisting his father with decoration projects, where he gained practical experience in tasks like modeling and painting. This early hands-on involvement with materials and design nurtured his fascination with form and craftsmanship, laying the foundation for his career in sculpture.

Aksu pursued formal training in sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Eskişehir Anadolu University, graduating in 2015. His academic journey continued with a master’s degree, where he explored the deeper relationship between art and socio-political structures. His thesis, "The Relationship Between Art and Politics in the Context of Plastic Arts," examined how political and cultural dynamics influence artistic expression, a theme that continues to inform his work today.

Artistic Approach
Aksu’s work explores themes of human existence, mythology, and modern sociology, drawing inspiration from ancient civilizations and art history. He reinterprets these subjects with a contemporary perspective, reflecting on the dialogue between past and present. Working with materials like marble, metal, wood, and styrofoam, Aksu creates both realistic and abstract forms that challenge the properties of each medium.

Throughout his artistic career, Emre has had the privilege of working with esteemed master sculptors on notable projects, including Kemal Tufan’s "Dictionarium " metal sculptures, and Mehmet Aksoy’s monumental marble sculpture projects, such as the "Özgecan Aslan Memorial" and "X Pose" sculptures. These collaborations have not only refined his technical skills but also enriched his artistic vision, deepening his understanding of large-scale public art and its cultural significance.

Film and Television Career
In addition to his fine art career, Aksu has worked extensively in the film and television industry. As an art director, set decorator, and prop master, he has contributed to prominent productions such as Netflix’s Ottoman Rising, Kuruluş Osman, and Kut-ül Amare.
